I'm on a mission to reduce the amount of processed sugars in my diet and wanted to share one of my favourite DIY treats. These are still technically high in sugar but direct from the source of dates and prunes (aka dried plums). The mixture is very sticky but the end results are 100% worth the effort. Keep in mind that this recipe is just a guideline - if you have different dried fruit(s) or seeds/nuts on hand... use those! If you're not sure - send me a note in the comments below.
Quick & Tasty Energy Balls
12 pitted dates
12 pitted prunes (aka dried plums)
⅓ C hemp hearts
⅓ C buckwheat groats*
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ C shredded coconut
* Buckwheat groats are not a grain but a seed! So anyone with gluten issues can eat these too :) When roasted this is also known as kasha.
** Pro tip: slightly toast the coconut for added flavour! I did not do this on these this time...
